Resolutions

I have started thinking about New Year resolutions.

i know that you don't/ shouldn't necessarily wait until the new year to start new habits- which often means putting things off for quite sometime, with the excuse of "after the new year."

But none the less i enjoy the tradition of thinking about what you hope to accomplish in the new year.

1. acquire Tommy on vinyl.

2. get the stereo all hooked up and working together. this is already partly accomplished- though one speaker isn't working and the record player needs to be part of it.

3. get the cactus garden going in the window planter. we need plants that can defend them selves against cats.

4. Tim and i started working on a creative project together last summer. I totally let the ball drop on my end of it. I need and want to get going on the project again.

5. go to the gym 3 days a week. i have been doing better, but the holidays have me at 1 day, 2 tops.

tales from the gym

i love the guys who show up in their cycling outfits to ride the bikes.

i watched Rachel Ray make a basic salad. she said, " i like to throw the chopped veggies on top, i think it makes the salad pretty. guess I'm kind of crazy like that." um, not really. its called making a salad and trying to hard to be unique.

i like watching people walk at a window shopping pace for 20 min while they text the whole time. why bother?

i like the couple scrawny teen age boys who come in and lift weights together.

count down

And just like the Christmas is over.

There was a whirl wind of family and friends and food and snow.
We are finishing up the year with a New Years Eve party and another long weekend.

We went to the Genghis Khan exhibit at the history museum this weekend. I am sorry to say that despite all the hype, it really wasn't a very good show. there were some artifacts and ancient pieces of clothing that were really cool- but you can get a more in depth history lesson from Wiki.

We also saw Avatar. As Tim points out in his blog, the general story is kind of a crap shoot of plot holes and so forth. I didn't like that the native language caption were in Papyrus. But the animation and imagined world are so incredible beautiful and creative, i wish the movie had only been about the Avatar- who cares about the white guys and their mining.

a pertty darn good month so far.

I've been in a bitchy mood lately. I'm blaming it on hormones.
But really it has been a pretty great month.

I went to my department holiday lunch at the Chop House.
We saw a bunch of family in Seattle over Thanksgiving.
I went to "birthday breakfast" with December birthdays at work.
We went to Vegas [for work] for my birthday [kind of].
We had a great dinner out at Olivea with my parents.
I got a new purse, a new camera, a light up lawn flamingo and a steam mop.
we went to Tim's company holiday party and play a few terrible rounds of pool and came home w/ some chocolate.
We washed our cats.
We bought a Christmas tree.
I had a great weekend at home with the Mr.
I had a department lunch w/ one of our main contractors.
I got 6 Omaha steaks from the same contractor- these will be Christmas Eve dinner for/with our parents.
I had my company holiday party- a catered lunch and raffle prize drawing.
We had dinner a couple different times w/ various friends- which included saying good bye to some friends moving to Taiwan.
In Theory i now have a record player.
i bought a giant red bow to go on a Christmas gift.
i am excited to have some fun Christmas surprises up my sleeve.

Next up:
we have a party w/ friends from out of town on Wednesday.
Thursday I'm watching White Christmas w/ my mom and mom in law.
we are having dinner w/ our parents.
we are having Christmas morning w/ my folks, and Christmas afternoon w/ Tim's- maybe a movie?
Tim's sister is visiting, and she has planned a fun Christmas dinner for the day after.
We are going to the Khan exhibit at the History museum.
We are hosting a big ol' New Years Eve bash.

woooooooooo!

I am and we are truly blessed. I am so glad we can spend this time w/ our family and friends.

I love you. xoxxo

i'm deaf, not blind

just because i don't hear the conversation, doesn't mean i don't know whats going on.
I'm sorry, but there is a thing as being too polite. it involves never having an opinion and being afraid of your opinion. it often leads to lack of personality and wishy washyness.
i cant stand this. its fine if you truly don't care what movie we see or where we go to lunch, but then i don't want to hear later that you had already seen it, or wish we had eaten somewhere else.
i swear, some times i feel like i am in middle school again. everyone's in a clique, and I'm not in any of them. we are all friendly to one another- more or less, but i am never actually part of the group. always just 3 steps to the left.

it continues to surprise me how much people avoid reviling anything about them selves. they are afraid to have a favorite food or talk about what they did over the weekend. .. and no one ever wants to take the time to really talk, about anything.

i find that i am often too girly, or not girly enough.

and i know its stupid. and i know it really doesn't matter. but it all drives me nuts just the same.

the micorwaves.

in the lunch room at work there is a row of about 10 microwaves. People come down and put their food in and then... stand there.... watching.
I'm not sure why they feel the need to watch the food go-round, the tables are as little as 6 feet away. I'm also not sure why they then get pissy when you want to get to an empty microwave- because 'Hey they're standing there!'

weekend review

had a really good weekend with Tim. It was good to be home.

Friday night we went to his company Christmas party, where everyone drank too much, the billiards were free and we got chocolate out of the white elephant exchange.

Saturday we cleaned and ran errands. the house hadn't been thoroughly cleaned since before we left for Seattle and the cats did their best to shed as much as possible. We finished our Christmas shopping- the mall was busy but not crazy and i bought my self a steam mop for my birthday. WOO.

Sunday I moped. [it was wonderful] and then we went tree shopping. Watched Muppet Christmas Carol started baking pumpkin, washed the cats and went to a friends house for Hot Pot dinner.

it may not sound like much, but it was a really great weekend at home with the Mr.

ulg. work

I didn't ask you because i think you have time to keep up with filing. I asked you because all the files get emailed to you, I never see them, and the books aren't updated, and i wondered if that stuff was being saved somewhere else now.
maybe you should make a new folder instead of keeping everything in your personal e-mail, but don't be pissy because i asked where stuff was. geeze.
and no, i didn't ask in the kind of pissed off way that i am writing this now.
nothing like being the black sheep in the room. booooooo

moving forward

I've been in a bit of a funk the last few weeks.
i know is Christmas time and I'm excited and yet, i just don't car of we get a tree or get it decorated. that's not normal. getting a tree is my absolute favorite thing during the holiday season.
my birthday came and went and it never really felt like a birthday. really i think it was one of my better birthdays because i wasn't anticipating anything so nothing went wrong. i didn't even care that we spent several hours too many in the airport.
my husband was nice enough to buy me a new purse, even though he doesn't have the damnedest idea why i needed or wanted one. we had Hawaiian themed hamburgers inside a casino and a bazaar sushi dinner at another casino. my parents got me a new camera- one we have been needing- the last camera i bought was in 2002 and Tim's was only a year newer than that.i realize that camera should and do last longer than that. my SLR is from the early 80s. but these were from the beginning of the small point and shoot development.
we also had a great dinner at Olivea with my parents last night. a long, loud dinner. but delicious.

I'm pissed at the cats. they have been in and on everything. the dry food keeps getting left out and the cats have figured out how to get into it [i swear its not me because i have cleaned it up 5 days in a row]. also we cant keep the door to the craft room open because Kabuki is in and on and eating everything she is no supposed to be. i don't know what it is about that room, she doesn't do it in the rest of the house.
I'm pretty positive that a lot of it has to do with us being away from home so much in the last few weeks. even with a house sitter they are still disgrunted about us being gone.

I'm glad to be home this weekend and settle back into the house.

maybe I'll even finish moving the pumpkins off the front porch.

rush rush

We spent Thanks Giving week in Seattle seeing little seen family. we returned Sunday am and promptly took a nap and spent most of the day on the couch watching movies.
Saturday we turn around and head back to the air port [i haven't even finished unpacking. surprise surprise].
This time we are headed to Vegas. me for work [its NFR season] and Tim for people watching. We are there through Monday and i have to say, i am rather excited to be spending my birthday in Vegas.
if you are in Vegas that weekend as well, i will be working at the Boot Barn Booth on Sunday at the convention center.

i'm ready to get the house cleaned up and decorated for christmas.

weekend run down

we attended Jack - o Launch 2009 on Saturday.

it was 18 degrees out, a bit breezy and snowing. everything was running late.
we were joined by friends Robin & Charles and a surprising number of other people willing to weather the weather. We also saw AP and the kids. the Bean did her best to turn into a Popsicle.
after a couple hrs we successfully saw some pumpkins launched and then ran back to the car to warm up.

We watched The Changeling. it was dark and depressing. Its Monday and i still need to watch something Disney to make up for it.

we had dinner with R & C who made a yummy white chili and chocolate martinis.

Friday we went to Cecil's birthday party, where everything was red.
and we filled up the rest of the weekend shopping for Halloween costume components.

pittsburgh take 2.

ok, i tried to post this a few days ago and Firefox kept crashing. so i will try again.

Pittsburgh! Most of it was closed for the G20, so we saw an awful lot of nice military personnel and blocked off exit ramps. thank god for GPS.
some how i only took one photos, and it was our detour to Ohio, because we didn't have money for the toll roads.

we went to the andy warhol museum- which was awesome! very well put together.
we also went to the art museum/ natural history museum. where we saw the largets remaining collection of plaster molds from ancient churches and roman busts and so forth [circa 1900]. and a wonderful exhibit on palm springs architecture from the 60s.

the wedding was a blast. tim and i actually danced. i think it helped that we were sure that we weren't any worse than the bride.

in other news my mom made me a new hat. its funny. i like it.

yes, she can knit. the colors are wonky because she was trying to make it gradient, and it didn't go so well. oh well, i like it.

i had 3 other things to blog about, but i waited too long and now i don't remember.

Pitts

we are headed to Pittsburgh this weekend for a friends wedding. maybe we'll see some Amish. Woooo!

oh kittens!

some new pic.s of the kittens.

First, I'm going to say good by to Ozzy. he has now been gone a month and i don't believe he is coming back. he was a mean little fucker. but when he chose, he could be the most loving purring kitty out there. I still look out the bedroom window every morning, expecting to see him sitting on the recycle bin, waiting for breakfast.

Below: picture in the first day or 2 Tim had him. he was 1.5 lbs.
fully size, but not full fluf. taken during the summer when he slimmed down. that red heat tag was punishment for loosing so many collars. nothing says "neighborhood bad ass" like a giant red heart.
Falkor was scared of the electrician today. and got wedged between the washer and furnace. i didn't realize until he had been there quite a while that he was actually stuck. and PISSED.

Professor Phennius Cheeto Esq. is now 1. theoretically this means he is no longer a kitten. somehow i think he will always be a kitten. Still skitterish, but slowly getting better.
annnnnd... kabuki just barfed up her dinner.

YESSSS!!

IT BEGINNING TO FEEL A BIT LIKE FALL...

i say a few golden leaves fluttering around on the street in the brisk morning breeze.

I LOVE FALL. wish i could take off from mid sep. through thanksgiving. i hate being in a windowless office all day, much less inside. lets go outside. lets go run around.

eveyone in my office is wining that we never had a summer and it never got hot. really? cus you can come over sometime. i'm sorry that your day went: AC apartment, AC car, AC office, AC car, AC apartment, AC restaurant, AC apartment. sheesh. no wonder you never noticed it was swealtering in july and aug.

song of the day: return to pooh corner- nitty gritty dirt band.

the drive home

i find that i am happier upon returning from work when i ride my scooter, rather than take the car. this is in no way related to how my day at work was. though scooting usually makes a crappy day better in the end.

moan

some days you cant win. and some days those days get to you more than others. i hate when those days get to me. my head says "wtf does it matter? its fine. no worries." but my heart is sure we are do for some angsty self pity of some kind.

i have also realized that i am sad i spend little time in coffee shops anymore. i love hanging out at the coffee shop after school/work and chatting or reading or planning. its like what we do at home, only in a public place. the theory here is that people i don't often see could choose to join us to chat. some people are easier to lose track of than others.

i miss riding around in the car with friends. radio, going somewhere. or no where. just hanging out. why do Tim and i have to plan EVERYTHING.

hummm...

Received news recently that some friends are moving to Taiwan in mid Nov. they got an offer to teach English. so if anyone is looking for or knows some one looking for an apartment, they are looking for someone to sublet until the lease ends in March. They are near Denver West and i think rent is around $850 a month. 2 bed + garage.

I am officially claiming it to be Prof. Cheeto's Birthday. As of September he is about 1 yr. old. [and adorable as ever.] i will try to get a new photo of him. hopefully one that does not have him running away or looking terrified.

Tim and i started talking about Halloween this weekend. We are excited that it is on a Saturday, so there is time for a whole weekend of party's, costumes and other goodness. I realized recently that i have never been a cat or a witch for Halloween. i was once a PuppyKittyButerfly, but that is as close as i got. i don't remember all my costumes but here are the ones i do remember:
my little pony, ballerina, puppykitttybuterfly, Indian, lobster, surfer, dead gardener [everyone thought i was a crappy scarecrow.], a court jester, a vampire, annnd... some assorted combinations courtesy of goodwill. cant remember what else. i feel that my gold lamae leggings need to be worked into a costume at some point that weekend.

oh the money we spend...

it turns out that $1500 in car repairs does make the car feel like new. now if only some of that had involved having the interior steam cleaned, or the paint re-done.

in other news we will soon have a light in our bedroom again. we attempted to install ceiling fans in the house, but our wiring circa 1940 needs updating. now there is an electrician involved and we are praying that the supposedly re-done electrical through out the house IS actually grounded.

but but... i wanted to spend that $$ on shoes!

epic beer run.

so... beer run was mildly successful.
we had the amazing apricot ale. but they were selling out Friday night and would only fill a growler if it was *their* growler. some how if you are a local and can go there every week, you can by extra beer. but if you hauled ass up from Denver, no. you can buy by the pint and that is all. so sorry.

also i was sick.

it was a beautiful drive. but i was not feeling well, so we didn't camp and just headed back to Denver. beer was great. but I'm kinda pissed we couldn't buy more.

to the mountains again!

we head to the mountains again this afternoon, for what will be henceforth known as "epic beer run."

part of how we ended up in some of our last camping trip calamity, was due to taking a scenic rout from delta to glenwood. we had hopped to stop and get some beer at our favorite nano brewery in paonia. we found it, but discovered that it did not open until 4:30 that afternoon, and later found out that they had sold out the night before.

i checked the weather- no rain or snow in the forecast for tonight/tomorrow. we head out this afternoon. our goal is the Apricot Ale. we may drive back tonight, we may camp by the rive and drive back the next morning.

this is where we are headed.
http://www.revolution-brewing.com/

you can also catch them next weekend in Ouray at the Brew festival. we went last year, it was great fun.

good weekend/ bad weekend.

it was an odd weekend.

we kicked it off with a trip to an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant on Thursday for our 2nd anniversary. the rolls weren't well crafted, but the fish was great. i ate so much i was burping up rice later.

Friday we went hiking in chitaqua park in boulder, wandering around the old cemetery and up and down pearl st. then to a "drink like you did in college" party, featuring such wonderful games as beer pong and hearts. Tim drank too much and i slept on the couch most of the night.

saturday we ran errands, said goodbye to my aunt that was visiting and had dinner with a friend. i am sorry to say that said friend was in morning of a parent that passed away friday.

sunday was a glorious day, filled with perfect fall temperatures and soccer and pizza and a movie.

"camping"

a couple weekends ago we set out camping. Our plan was to leave Friday after work and head up to a campground call Fulson Cave, outside of Eagle. Due to many schedule conflicts we ended up with one brave friend, Adam, joining us on our journey. We packed everything and ourselves into our little Subaru and headed out.

First stop was our corner gas station. Looking back we wonder if this is what jinxed everything. This is the scariest intersection. we cross our fingers and say hail marys everytime we go past this place, beuse the crazy going in and out is deadly.
Adam____________> our friendly pirate friend.
the car is packed. full.
We stopped for Pizza in Idaho Springs. Beajous makes a decent gluten free crust.

back on the road, this picture doesn't, like most here, do honor to the quality of sun set. i think i took this coming out of Eisenhower tunnel.

We hit Eagle around 9:30. stopped for booz and groceries. after some confusion and new housing developments, we found the road we were looking for and headed for the campgrounds. We choose this campground because it was supposed to A. never fill up. B. has a cave to explore. C. a ghost town. D. hiking trails that take you to a lake. Sounds great right?

Full. all full. over 30 campsites. looked like a wonderful place to go, and maybe we will another time. By the time we got back down the mountain and into town in was 11pm.
Friday night, spent at the AmericInn in Eagle. we found out that there was both a brew fest and rodeo in town that weekend. as we were to later realize, it was rodeo weekend in all of western Colorado.
the hotel had a swimming pool and free breakfast. that that at least was a plus.

We had our mildly trusty campsite book with good descriptions, and Adam bought a map of Colorado. [we didn't bring one because we were going down i-70 and going one place. who needs a map?] this was a good move on Adam's part, we later realized.

We headed for a place South of Grand Junction, on the way to Gateway. stopped for firewood- at several different places. apparently when you are in areas near where you would actually use firewood, it is near impossible to find, unlike, say central Denver, where you can get all the firewood you want.

we headed to a Bureau of Land Management camping area called Domingez [sp?]. We went up the gravel switchback, and back down the gravel switchback [all the while questioning if we could do it in reverse the next morning.] The campground was beautiful, set in a red stone canyon, in a grove of cottonwoods, next to a stream. the Colorado southwest at it's finest.
we went hiking! [before returning to lounge and nap.]
Adam had a new and giant tent. it had a zipper slot for electrical cords. and another small round opening, that i thought was a dog flap, but it turned out to be fore reaching a drink out of your cooler with out leaving your tent.
FIRE! and head lamps, and potatoes and sausages and liqueur. Adam is also the only one smart enough to bring a chair.

The next morning we packed up and headed out around 10. Surprisingly enough we did make it back up the switch back and headed for Delta. Instead of heading back up through Grand Junction and strait for i-70, we decided to take the more scenic rout through Delta to Paonia, looking for a small brewery called Revolution Brewing. we had some of their brew last year in Ouray and found it to be amazing. They were, unfortunately, closed. we continued on to Redstone where we stopped for Lunch and the Redstone Cafe. food was good, but soon people were poring in. Turns out there was a mud slide just out side of town, meaning we were not going to be able to continue through to Carbondale and up to i-70. also meaning that we narrowly missed being in a mud slide due to stopping for lunch.

From here we have two options. A. take 2 hours and head south across to Crested Butte and on to Gunnison. putting us at 5 or 6 hours from Denver, at least, since its now Sunday and there is always traffic getting into Denver. or B. we go south and take a different pass over the mountain that puts us back on i-70 just west of where we would have come out anyway. According to our map book, option B looks like the better plan. Oh yeah, i forgot to mention. it's raining. and has been since Delta, more or less.
This option "B" turns out to be 50 miles of gravel roads. 3/4 of which are amazingly beautiful giant Aspen groves and meadows full of wild flowers- and free range cows. every so often we see people camping or whatnot, so we were not entirely alone up there. at some point towards the end we hit the road change. due mainly to change in land ownership. this road is not nearly as well cared for. the gravel is mostly gone or just on the sides of the road and what is left is fine dusty dust. or it would have been had it not been six inches of slick mud. and what could be better than slick mud? going down a steep switch back in slick mud. yup. we slid sideways most of the way. and hopped the remaining gravel on the edges would be enough for us to get traction and not slam into a dirt wall. at this time it was probably great that we had the car seriously weighted down with people and stuff. and it was also good that we had 4 wheel drive.

I didn't think to take more photos here. really i should have.
We came out in Silt. where we were detoured over to Glenwood Springs, due to a mud slide and a tanker that was too tall hitting a bridge. Finally made it to a gas station, where we exited the car as fast as possible.I would like to say that the story ends here, with us getting on i-70 and heading home. But NO. We headed through Eagle as fast as the speed limit would allow, only to hit the breaks and join the 30 mile line of cars trying to get past Vail. OK. we didn't know if was 30 miles. first we heard that it was 5 miles. but after 2 hours and moving maybe a mile, we turned around and headed back to Eagle for Dinner. thinking we could get on Hwy. 6 and go around the traffic, we also promptly came to a stop and say in traffic for several hours. after some calls home we heard that a tanker had flipped at noon and there was 15 miles of traffic. at this point it was 10pm and we had been traveling for 12 hours. We headed back to eagle only to find all of the hotels full and then back to Glenwood Springs. We had breakfast Monday morning at a Bavarian Bakery, where we leaned that there was 30 miles of traffic and another mud slid on Hwy. 6. To make our trip more fun, all road construction resumes mid morning on week days. we left our camp site at 10 am on Sunday and arrived home to Denver at noon Monday.

weekend stuffs. not exciting. but fun

it was a weird weekend for us. somehow we had noting. i mean nothing planned.

friday: we sought ADVENTURE. which resulted in adventure golf, than got rained out- so now we have a rain check and can go again. hung out with friends, had a good time.

sat: i attempted to teach a friend a felting technique. it didn't work as it was supposed to and i have no idea why. i have done something like 30 yards of fabric using this technique and have never had a problem. so i don't know what happened. we watched Kung Fu Panda. I'm not sure how i feel about it. i think i need to watch it again. also watched Wanted. again, not quite what i thought it was going to be, i think. but fun action shoot em' up movie.

sunday: Hiking! we headed to ..somewhere- west of evergreen.... and went up about 1,200 feet. to the top. it was a good hike. we remembered my inhaler this time and i think roller derby has helped as well. i really feel it at about 1,100 feet. which could explain why i totally didn't do good when we attempted grays and torys last yr. [also a forgotten inhaler.] that climb starts at 1,100 feet. didn't take any pictures, because, well, it looked like hiking in Colorado. but was not extraordinary and in need of photographs. still want to do the 14er. but need to work up to it better. hope to do more hiking this summer and fall.

Buffy

We finished watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer last week. All 7 seasons. i dint like the last few nearly as much as the earlier seasons. also, Buffy gets freaky skinny. go watch some of season one, then watch season 7. Hollywood got to her. as it often does with new, young, pretty actresses. one day you look at them and they are these weird emaciated, freakishly makeuped women. it usually means they have lost alot of their charm.

In an effort to see Angel less mopey, we started watching Angel this week. the sun set/ rising flashes to show the change of days is HILARIOUS. who the hell though that shit up?

i ordered the first season of Bones from the library like... 6 months ago. literally. i am still like 14 on the list. they must only own one copy.

LCL 8

teal: pants shirt, sock shoes.
black: hat, back pack purse.

if you ever want to see her: she walks north bound on the east side of federal Blvd. i always see her approaching 84th ave. about 7:30 am.
