3:10 to Yuma (2007)

Beautiful scenery, great costuming, use of the cold sun of the southwest. And if that doesn't do it for you, the Gatling gun on a stage coach should.

Ladron Que Roba a Ladron (2007)

Set in California, the movie is in Spanish. A classic heist film that is fun and a bit silly. The story of a thief getting revenge on a thief for breaking their code of ethics. Available on Netflix on demand, worth a watch.

Adventures in Babysitting (1987)

Not a new watch for us, but one that is not nearly as popular as other 80's films. Probably because John Hughes was not involved. Pretty much everything that happens in this film is an example of the worst fears and warning told by people from small towns, or in this case suburbs, about the Big City. Hijinks ensue, theres a gang fight, carjacking, blues club, hookers and a frat party. The cast includes Elizabeth Shue, Keith Coogan, Anthony Rapp and Bradley Whitford.

movies- Milk

We watched Milk a couple nights ago. before the movie started Mr. T was kind enough to tell me the guy gets shot in the end. thanks honey. i hadn't remembered that bit on my own.

it was good. i know nothing of Harvey Milk- before my time and never mentioned in history class.
i only hope it was portrayed accurately. i always have to wonder about movies that portray a single side to the story- as most do- just how realistic the portrayal of the hero character really is.

a weekend not full of bad movies

we only watched 2 movies this weekend. and only one of them fell into the "bad" category.

- we watched Sherlock "low budget,not to be confused w/ the blockbuster hit" Holmes. that featured a dinosaur and a dragon. this fine piec of film making was brought to us by the same people who did Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus."
11pm. bed.

more bad movies

We are officially on a bad movie kick. Not all are bad, but a good number of them are.
recently we have watched: American Pie- Band Camp, When Harry Met Sally, Oceans 12, Cool Runnings and Scream.
coming from NetFlix this week we have Twilight: New Moon. I hear its terrible.

movie friday

Forgetting Sarah Marshall:
was fun and really quite funny. i didn't hear much about this film when i came out, but we finally got around to getting it it and I'm glad we did.

Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year:
a Bollywood production that was neither 3 hrs long, or musical. Netflix called it a "romantic comedy" and while the one guy got the girl it was such a minor sub plot that i forgot they were even dating. i wouldn't call it a comedy either. but it was a good movie, about a guy out of college trying to enter the career of salesman and what he learns. I would categorize it under indie flicks.

500 days of summer

We finally saw 500 Days of Summer, this weekend. it was good, and fun and different. i love Zooey Deschanel and am glad to see Joesph Gorden-Levitt in something new.
Recommended.

started watching season 2 of Flight of the Concords. it's extra trippy.

we are looking at a 3 sitting, viewing of Milo and Otis. neither one of us remembered the graphic kitten/puppy berthing scenes.

Open Doors Denver is next weekend and looks fantastic. i hope to make it to a couple tours.

crazy weekend

Went kind of like this: bought movies at a closing Blockbuster, dinner- only 1 glass of wine, did some house work, bought a fancy new hair dryer, got stuff to fix the chair, helped with a move, watched Katie, got new phones, went to an Absinthe party, cleaned, went to a movie watching party, got lost leaving Evergreen and then it was Monday.

Pretty excited about the new phones. i didnt get the one i have been lusting after, but I got one that i like, making a compromise of plan price. I think it will be fine. the new phones, in general, do so much more than my phone from 5 years ago. [that until last weekend worked perfect, but then the camera function stopped working.] Tim got a military grade phone that does cool science nerd stuff like, telling you the moon phase and what the temperature is right where you are standing. it's supposed to be indestructible- at least as far as phones go. So now we are on a Family Plan, together and i we can text more and i can access e-mail. WOOO.

The Absinthe party was fun, though i was a bit exhausted after the 3 hr phone buying ordeal. We went to a friends house- the same friend who turned us on to Absinthe originally- for a tasting and general merryment. Turnes out we brought the only bottle containing Wormwood, and quite a large dent was put in it.

Due to the Blockebuster near us closing, we are now the proud owners of Ninja Turtles II & III, Flight of the Concords Season 2, Milo and Otis and Notting Hill.

Yesterday we watched: Soylent Green, Akima [? or something like that] and Children of Men.

And just like the Christmas is over.

There was a whirl wind of family and friends and food and snow.
We are finishing up the year with a New Years Eve party and another long weekend.

We went to the Genghis Khan exhibit at the history museum this weekend. I am sorry to say that despite all the hype, it really wasn't a very good show. there were some artifacts and ancient pieces of clothing that were really cool- but you can get a more in depth history lesson from Wiki.

We also saw Avatar. As Tim points out in his blog, the general story is kind of a crap shoot of plot holes and so forth. I didn't like that the native language caption were in Papyrus. But the animation and imagined world are so incredible beautiful and creative, i wish the movie had only been about the Avatar- who cares about the white guys and their mining.

we bought a new couch. the first in furniture purchases as adults. and its new.
we found a cat at pets mart that i really really want to adopt, but we wont.
we bout a new tooth brush.
we got a nasty computer virus that has resulted in the recent install of windows 7.
we went to a birthday dinner that was a continuation of attempting but rarely meeting new people while reconnection w/ people we know and didn't know other friends also know.
we went to the zoo for the busiest free day EVER.
we found out there are more car repairs to be had in the somewhat distant future.
i am starting to feel crappy again and wish we could get to the root of these chronic sinus infections.
we will be watching RMRG in their first nationals tournament. [they play Huston today at 3:15 Mountain Standard Time- see them live on DNN.COM]
we get to see our friend Mary from Pittsburgh who is in town for a programmers convention of something- which will result in tacos and the ChildsPlay fundraiser.
we are headed to Seattle for thanksgiving week- and are super excited about it.
we are then headed to Las Vegas for work and my birthday. and I am super excited about it.
we need to clean up the Halloween stuff and get the jack-o-lanterns off the front porch.
i found boots and a scarf at old navy yesterday that i love... also a shirt at gap....
i admit i love black and red buffalo check
i am excited about the holidays. i do really love them.
if it snows this weekend i am watching White Christmas.
i need to take movies back to the library.
i road my scooter yesterday. i did not ride nearly enough this year. i am sad about that.
i found a bunch of holes in my sweater this morning after i got to work.
prof. cheeto cat put holes in my new shirt last night.
our friend had a WarHammer cake for his birthday. it rocked.
i really hope that metallic printing cost the same as the regular colors.
thank god for surf shops and brands. makes it easier to work on Summer.
i need to tell Christine that i will buy a top hat from her.
i wonder if i should take my galoshes to Seattle. I've never seen it rain there- always sunny and dry.
i wonder what i should have for lunch.... mmmmmmmm lunch....

weekend run down

we attended Jack - o Launch 2009 on Saturday.

it was 18 degrees out, a bit breezy and snowing. everything was running late.
we were joined by friends Robin & Charles and a surprising number of other people willing to weather the weather. We also saw AP and the kids. the Bean did her best to turn into a Popsicle.
after a couple hrs we successfully saw some pumpkins launched and then ran back to the car to warm up.

We watched The Changeling. it was dark and depressing. Its Monday and i still need to watch something Disney to make up for it.

we had dinner with R & C who made a yummy white chili and chocolate martinis.


Friday we went to Cecil's birthday party, where everything was red.
and we filled up the rest of the weekend shopping for Halloween costume components.

Buffy

We finished watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer last week. All 7 seasons. i dint like the last few nearly as much as the earlier seasons. also, Buffy gets freaky skinny. go watch some of season one, then watch season 7. Hollywood got to her. as it often does with new, young, pretty actresses. one day you look at them and they are these weird emaciated, freakishly makeuped women. it usually means they have lost alot of their charm.

In an effort to see Angel less mopey, we started watching Angel this week. the sun set/ rising flashes to show the change of days is HILARIOUS. who the hell though that shit up?

i ordered the first season of Bones from the library like... 6 months ago. literally. i am still like 14 on the list. they must only own one copy.

cultural excursions.

due to my recent Derby Break Up and the holiday weekend, Tim and I found ourselves with nothing to do on Sunday. [by nothing, i mean avoiding laundry, grocery shopping- etc.]

We decided to head to the Denver Art Museum to see the Psychedelic Poster Exhibit. Featuring posters from San Francisco from 1964 - 71. I pre-viewed this show last Wednesday while i was down town for jury duty and thus had a free pass to the museum. I knew Tim wanted to go, but i was not sure we would make it before the show closed.
This show was the best I have ever seen at DAM. I think I usually go in with expectations of some kind- but this show I had no idea what there was supposed to be.
There were easily a couple hundred posters on display. they were arranged in chronological order and grouped by artist. Meaning that you could see how style changed as a whole over time and also the progress of the artist.
I love this style of poster. But have never seen enough of it to get a good feel for the concept and how and why things were arranged the way they were. I have actually been trying to do a t-shirt screen for work that had this feeling. at the time i searched endlessly for good examples and found nothing. to day i looked and you can see it all. maybe its popular again. more so this year than last year.

to continue our cultural escapades we headed to the movie theater for one of the multitudes of showings of Transformers II.
we knew it would be non coherent. it seemed long to me. probably because it was all shiny fighting, and i didn't give a shot about if anyone involved succeed in what ever it was they were trying to accomplish. [i was a bit fuzzy on that too.] Then we enjoyed spending over an hour pointing out loop holes and a so forth total bashing of the film.

it was a good day.

Goodfellas

we watched Goodfellas last night. I cant believe i haven't seen this movie before- but i think its because i was thinking it was The Crew.

the reason, we determined was because the fronts of the movie box say "like Goodfellas meets Grumpy Old Men" [the below picture does not, i couldent get a copy on here that did]

good movie. I love mob movies. though a number of them seem to have escaped me. see i don't really make an effort to see many mob movies- we just watched The Godfather earlier this yr.

if you like mob movies, watch it. i think it may have launched a number of peoples carrears.

also The Crew is funny.
